Lunchy Peach at the Coach and Horses

Simply stunning; MiMi Aye and Tim Anderson’s Lunchy Peach was one of the best lunches I’ve had in a fucking long time. The menu was inspired by David Changs stint at St John’s earlier in the year but the recipes had been given a little tweaking along the way.

We started with some pork scratchings; this really did help set the theme of the afternoon...

Chilean Viognier and Argentinian Rioja

I'm going to start an occasional series of shameless wine freebie write ups the first is from Fine Wines Direct.  They asked me if I would like to review some of their wine and being the old lush that I am of course I said yes.

A few days later the courier dropped off my newly acquired plonk and I set about the serious business of tasting it all in the name of science.  First up was the Casa Silva Reserva Viognier from Chile.

St Mungo's and the Table

It’s not often that you get to combine helping out a charity and a getting a barbecue cooked for you.  Luckily at the weekend we’d been invited down to St Mungo’s allotment in Clapham to do a bit of planting and try some food cooked by one of the chefs from the Table in Southwark.

To cut a long story short the Table has been buying produce grown at St Mungo’s allotment and using it to put together a local and seasonal menu just a few miles down the road.  The Table gets fresh produce and St Mungo’s gets to help people who need it; along the way those in hardship staying with the charity can learn some new skills as well.

London Paralympics 2012

Apologies for the undoubtedly sentimental bit of waffling that will follow but I was lucky enough to visit the Olympic village and watch some of the London 2012 Paralympics last night.  For me it combined awe inspiring feats of athletic ability, the best of the British weather, and an evening of genuine national pride.

I've had to travel by the Olympic village at Stratford quite a bit recently for work but until we walked up to the park I hadn't truly taken in the scale of it all.  Thankfully the clever seating design made you still feel part of the action as I was worried we wouldn't even be able to see the track from our seats in the gods...

Lucky Chip Slider Bar - Broadwick Street

What a dangerous place; hidden down some steps on Broadwick Street the dimly lit Slider Bar is everything my doctor wants me to avoid.  We visited on a Friday after a few* post work drinks round Soho to take in some dirty slider action.
